There are other ways to exist, success for our planet does not come in the colour of gold, or the dark slick of oil, it comes in the tapestry of skin colour and grey mush of our brains.
Mutiny happens when people - or at least one person - stops believing in their leader and starts thinking there might be a better way, or that they might do a better job.
The functions of society should help build and support a creative, forward thinking, engaged, optimistic and peaceful electorate that appreciates the rights of others and is able to work hand in hand for the best of the planet.
I worry that this, in the end, will be the ultimate downfall of humanity. Whether by our inaction or our inability to think creatively or teach our children to do so.
I have learned to look beneath the surface, to listen for the meaning rather than the words and to observe the reality of another culture, and challenge myself not to judge it.
I suspect that if you were to ask most people what they would imagine the perfect world to be like, in reality it wouldn't look much different to their world right now. Surrounded by family and friends, a job they love, enough money to live as they would like and not have to worry, happiness, freedom, health.
Somehow focusing so completely on the very real and big problems we have right now prevents us from being able to pull back and consider how we might mitigate similar problems for our children and grandchildren, and perhaps even thousands of years into a future beyond our comprehension.
